Bill George
Bill George is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic. Mr. George is Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Business School, where he is teaching "Leadership and Corporate Accountability." He is the author of Authentic Leadership: Rediscovering the Secrets to Creating Lasting Value, and was recently named one of "The 25 Most Influential Business People of the Last 25 Years" by PBS Nightly News. Prior to joining the Harvard faculty in January 2004, Mr. George was Professor of Leadership and Governance at IMD International in Lausanne, Switzerland and Executive-in-Residence at Yale University’s School of Management. He joined Medtronic in 1989 as President and Chief Operating Officer, and was elected Chief Executive Officer in 1991, serving in that capacity through 2001. He was Chairman of the Board from 1996 to 2002. Mr. George serves as a director of Goldman Sachs, Novartis, and Target Corporation and sits on a number of boards including the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Harvard Business School Board of Dean’s Advisors, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
